Egnyte Integration Feature Overview
The Egnyte integration connects an Egnyte account to a Newforma Konekt project, allowing you to work with selected Egnyte files and folders directly from the project’s Files activity center.
Newforma Konekt accesses these files directly in Egnyte and does not maintain a separate copy, so actions taken in Newforma Konekt apply to the files in Egnyte.
How It Works
File Access in the Files Activity Center
Once a project is connected to Egnyte, the selected Egnyte folders and their contents appear in the project’s Files activity center alongside other connected file sources.
Newforma Konekt accesses these files and folders directly in Egnyte. No separate copy is created, and no content is duplicated between the two platforms. Uploading a file or creating a folder from Newforma Konekt writes directly to Egnyte.
Actions Available on Egnyte Files and Folders
From the Files activity center, you can perform the following actions on connected Egnyte files and folders:
- Open details: view a file or folder’s name, type, size, version, created date, and latest update date.
- Preview: display the contents of a file without downloading it.
- Download: download a single file to your local device.
- Upload: add a file to a connected Egnyte folder.
- Search: find a file or folder by name.
- View history: display the changes made to a file or folder through the integration.
- Create folder: add a folder to the Egnyte file structure.
- Share: send a file or folder to another user in the project; the shared item is recorded in the Sharing center.
Each action requires valid Newforma Konekt and Egnyte credentials, and access is governed by both platforms.
Connection Scope
The Egnyte connection is established once per project by a user with admin access in both Newforma Konekt and Egnyte. All other project users who have Egnyte accounts then have access to the connected files and folders without connecting anything themselves.
Newforma Konekt supports one connected Egnyte instance per project.
Permissions and Prerequisites
To connect Egnyte to a Newforma Konekt project, you need:
- A Newforma Konekt license
- An Egnyte instance
- Admin access in both Newforma Konekt and Egnyte
To work with connected Egnyte files and folders, you need an Egnyte account and the Egnyte permissions that apply to the connected folders.
Your ability to view or act on a specific file or folder depends on the permissions assigned to you in Egnyte. Newforma Konekt does not support Egnyte’s ViewerOnly permission, so a user with only that permission cannot access the connected files from Newforma Konekt.
Expected Behaviors
- Instance limit: one Egnyte instance can be connected per project.
- Platform support: Egnyte on-premise deployments are not supported.
