NextGen Viewer (Connected) and Legacy Viewer (Unconnected): Key Differences

Newforma Konekt includes two viewers: the NextGen viewer and the legacy viewer.

Viewer Connectivity

The NextGen viewer is the connected experience because it connects to the Files activity center. This means you can upload IFC models and sheets from the Files activity center in addition to your local device when working in this viewer.

NextGen viewer instances used in existing projects created before August 19, 2024 may not be connected to the Files activity center.

The legacy viewer is the unconnected experience because it does not connect to the Files activity center. You cannot upload IFC models or sheets from Files when working in it.

Viewer Eligibility

If a hub was created after August 19, 2024, all new projects in that hub use the NextGen viewer. If a hub was created before August 19, 2024, you can still use the legacy viewer in new projects.

If you select the legacy viewer, the NextGen viewer remains your default viewer. To work in the legacy viewer, access the Viewer activity center and select Work in the legacy viewer. Projects using the NextGen viewer don’t have this option.
